Swimming: Sat Sept 1

Aquatics Centre:

Matt Whorwood of Paralympics GB wins Bronze. He seems a nice chap:

Ellie Simmonds prepares for battle against Victoria Arlen in the 400m Freestlye:

And they're off!...Arlen (2nd closest) is chased down by Simmonds (3rd closest, red hat) . In the Aquatics Centre everybody was SCREAMING so loud, it was crazy. I was shaking, like, "Aaargh!". It felt like nothing else existed, and whatever had happened or was happening, or was going to happen was of absolutely no importance, because the only thing that mattered was Ellie getting ahead of Arlen and winning the race. Which she did :)

A bit different to Pistorius and Olivero:

Ellie on the podium with her Gold medal. Sorry its blurry but as I said, it was so exciting I was shaking a bit.

An action shot.

Saturday September 1st: The Blog Is Back!

Hello again everyone, we are back for the Paralympics. Yesterday I  (Miriam) went with school to see athletics.

Here is Team GB's Shelly Woods (3rd place, red hat) on her way to qualifying for the women's T54 5000m

This is the men's T11 1500m. Each visually impared athlete has a guide (in the orange bib) who run beside them and guides the visually impared athlete around the track. In this picture they are running round the bend, so the athlete and gudie stay close to each other; on the straights there is less danger of bashing into somebody, so the pairs can separate a bit. I think the gudies get medals too, which is fair.

This is the club throw. Its like throwing a boomerang, except you face the other way and throw it over your shoulder.

Here is Team GB's Aled Davies collecting his Bronze medal for the shot put- except the Croatian silver-medallist is hogging all the attention

The women's F37/38 Long Jump medallist observe the Russian national anthem, after Margarita Goncharova won gold with a leap of 4.84m.

We also saw Hannah Cockroft's 100m heat.

This evening, we are all taking Grandma (eek!) to the Aquatics Centre, where GB's Ellie Simmonds is looking to defend her 400m Freestyle (I think) gold, if the Victoria Arlen controversy is sorted out. We'll also see the 100m Butterfly in which Sascha Kindred is expected to medal for Team GB.
